Save Significantly on Your Workers’ Compensation Premium

Workers' Comp Group Rating Programs

Did you know that many alternative discounts are available to help reduce your annual Ohio workers’ compensation costs? Through the Sedgwick workers’ compensation program, your company can significantly reduce your workers’ compensation costs through a variety of alternative rating programs. Sedgwick offers you quality service and stability through the complex workers’ compensation environment.

For more than 50 years, Sedgwick has been helping employers navigate Ohio’s workers’ compensation system, providing services to help them control claim-related costs and reduce premiums. Their team includes the experienced colleagues from CompManagement and CareWorks Comp. The two companies merged and are now Sedgwick. Together, they serve nearly 65,000 Ohio employers including organizations of all sizes operating in various industries across the state. Group rating programs administered by Sedgwick have produced more than $4 billion in savings since group rating was introduced in 1991, and their group retrospective programs have returned more than $630 million in premium refunds since the program began in 2009.

Sedgwick offers BX members a No Cost, No Obligation Analysis.

Managed Care Organization

Both Managed Care Organizations (MCO) and Third Party Administrators (TPA) play important roles in helping employers manage workers’ compensation costs. If you are responsible for your workers’ comp program, it’s important to have a fundamental understanding of the roles of an MCO and a TPA.

  • What is an MCO?
Under Ohio's Health Partnership Program, MCOs are responsible for the medical management of Ohio employers' work-related injuries and illnesses. Every employer in Ohio must have an MCO, which is paid for directly by the BWC.

  • What is a TPA?
A Third Party Administrator (TPA) assists employers in the administrative and financial aspects of a claim. TPA staff typically consists of claim representatives, account representatives, and other workers' compensation professionals.

Health Insurance

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield's COVID-19 Resource Page.

Whether your company is large or small, the BX provides options. Through your BX Membership, companies have access to two plans:

  • A Multiple Employer Welfare Arrangement (MEWA)
A self-funded MEWA for BX members with 2 to 50 full-time eligible employees, powered by SOCA.

The Builders Exchange of Central Ohio partnered with the Southern Ohio Chamber Alliance (SOCA) to offer small employers – those with 2 to 50 employees – access to a health insurance program called a Multiple Employer Welfare Arrangement (MEWA). This allows members to pool together to create buying power in order to purchase more affordable health insurance as one large group.

  • The Alliance Saver Program
Group health plan administered by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield for employers with 50 or more full-time eligible employees.

For larger companies – those with 50 or more employees – the Alliance Saver Program can have a significant impact for employers offering health insurance benefits. The Alliance Saver Program allows for premium savings through Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of 1%, but by adding ancillary programs such as dental, vision, life and disability options, members can potentially save up to 5%.
